Before and After Care
LASER HAIR REMOVAL
BEFORE THE TREATMENT:
-
The area to be treated MUST BE SHAVED on the day of treatment, however shaving immediately prior to treatment may make the skin more sensitive so please allow sufficient time in between.
-
Tanned skin can be treated provided the tan is not active. Therefore, avoid direct sun exposure to the area being treated for at least 5 days prior to treatment.
-
The use of tanning creams/fake tan must be discontinued 2 weeks before treatment.
-
You must avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment and do not wax, epilate or pluck or remove hair by any other means than shaving as during the course of the treatment.
-
You must avoid the use of essential oils for 48h prior to treatment.
-
Do not use Depilatory creams 1 week prior to treatment.
-
If you have a history of cold sores, Zovirax may be used prior to treatment and continued one week after treatment.
-
If you have been on antibiotics, we ask that you leave 2 weeks between finishing the course and having a Laser treatment.
-
A broad spectrum ( UVA/UVB) sunscreen of SPF30+ should be applied whenever exposed to the sun.
-
The area to be treated must be free from dirt, make-up, deodorant, moisturisers and lotions
AFTER THE TREATMENT:
-
Occasionally there may be a sunburn-like redness that can last for 1-3 days apply a soothing lotion such as Aloe Vera or cool packs ( not ice) at home if required.
-
Do not shave or apply deodorants/ perfumes to the area for 24-48h to reduce any skin irritation.
-
There may be swelling that can last up to 48h- Apply cool packs at home if required.
-
Avoid very hot baths, sauna, hot tubs/jacuzzi, massage treatments or athletic activities for 2-3 days.
-
The skin may have increased sensitivity to sunlight and therefore we advise you use a 30+ sunscreen and avoid sun exposure and solarium treatments for at least 14 days after the Laser treatment.
-
Rarely there may be some itching of the skin. Avoid scratching the skin. You can take an antihistamine e.g. Piriton to alleviate this irritation, which should settle after 1-3 days.
-
Avoid using any skincare that contains AHA, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid or Retinoic Acid ( e.g. Retin A ) for 3-5 days.

You may start to gently exfoliate the skin after 3-5 days to remove the flaky dead skin that commonly forms after Laser treatments.

POST TREATMENT CARE:
After any laser treatment, it is common for the area to feel slightly warm. It is also common to experience some redness, local swelling and mild tenderness. These symptoms may appear immediately or a few days after treatment.
-
The use of 100 % Aloe Vera gel is recommended directly after treatment and for a further few days if necessary.
-
An ice cold compress can be applied if the area feels hot or uncomfortable.
-
A high SPF 30+ should be applied when outside for 4 weeks after treatment. Excessive exposure can cause hypo or hyper pigmentation of the skin.
NAILS
AFTER THE TREATMENT:
-
In the first 12 hours after getting a manicure please AVOID having a hot shower, washing the dishes or even blow drying your hair as this prevents the nail polish from curing properly.
-
Please ensure you are constantly moisturising using special nail oils which have Vitamin E and Jojoba.
-
Ensure you are only using unscented foot creams as fragrance can cause pedicure polish to break down rapidly
-
Always wear gloves for household chores.
